River Run Network Clean Up: Along Rillito River near Columbus Blvd

Feb 11 2023 - 3:00pm
Come join our bilingual (English/Spanish) clean up along the Rillito River near Columbus Blvd, right off The Loop. With the Catalina Mountains in sight, we will experience our unique desert ecosystem while working together to make this area a cleaner place. There’s lots of riparian vegetation along this section and great trails to walk within the riverbed. Historically, the Rillito would have flowed seasonally, it now primarily flows with rainfall. With the Rillito’s connection to the Santa Cruz River, keeping trash and pollution out of our creeks is so important for the health of our watershed and all the plants and animals in our riparian areas. Come learn from WMG’s staff Christian Aguilar about invasives and native plants in the area and their influence on riparian areas. We also plan to remove small pockets of Arundo donax with River Run Network Intern Matthew Jensen during the event to get this invasive species out early before it spreads too far. ¡También hablamos español!

The River Run Network has Flow365 Monitors throughout this stretch, and we hope to share more of this beauty and increase stewardship through this effort. So sign up and join River Run Network members caring for our creeks and rivers and enjoying time in the Rillito. This would be a great event to bike to and explore other stretches of the creek along The Loop!

This event is organized through WMG’s River Run Network (RRN). Members work together to learn about and steward our creeks and rivers through creek walks, restoration activities, river clean-ups, and educational workshops. If you are not yet a member, we will add you to the RRN when you register for this event. Membership is free and includes a regular e-newsletter with upcoming events.
