River Run Network Clean Up: Julian Wash in Barrio Kroeger Lane

River Run Network Clean Up: Julian Wash in Barrio Kroeger Lane

Watershed Management Group
Nov 4 2023 - 8:00am
We’re partnering with Favor Celestial and Barrio Kroeger Lane to clean up a section of the Julian wash that still has natural ground cover, is considered an important riparian area, and runs through the south end of the neighborhood. Help volunteers from WMG and the surrounding area remove trash, invasive species, and help care for this section of the Julian Wash. You’ll also hear from WMG’s Green Infrastructure Project Manager, Luis Salgado and River Run Network Intern, Cass Fox about the impact that urban design, planning, and expansion can have on our urban landscapes, ecosystem, and community.

About Julian Wash & Barrio Kroeger Lane

The Julian Wash runs through the Barrio Kroeger Lane neighborhood, connecting to the Santa Cruz River just West of the I-10 highway. This event is an addition to our monthly clean-up initiative, and to support the work Barrio Kroeger Lane has been doing to preserve this natural stretch of the wash. As our creeks, rivers, and washes fill up with water during our rainy seasons, trash follows the flow, and invasive species start outcompeting the native vegetation.

Historically, Barrio Kroeger Lane has largely been a suburban and semi-rural neighborhood. Throughout its development, the barrio has continued to retain its heritage expressed in its built environment, and many of its formative cultural practices remain active and vital to the present day.
