Have you ever wondered where the water in the Santa Cruz River came from, what are the Origins of Water for our desert rivers? Take a hike with us and learn about the origins of water in the greater region of the Sonoran Desert and the origins of water for our Santa Cruz River. Experience the connectivity of the Sky Islands region and our rivers, visualized the one watershed concept as a unit for watershed health and community wellbeing. We are going to gather at the Douglas Spring Trailhead at the East end of Speedway in the Rincon Mountains of the NPS-Saguaro East. We will walk up the trail to gain some elevation and see the Santa Cruz River Tucson-basin as well as the Tanque Verde creek origins. As we hike, we are going to have several stops to experience how the waterways are created and how water moved through them for millennia crating creeks and rivers that are the life-streams of our environment and communities. In total we will walk around 4-5 miles round trip in the Douglas Spring trail, come prepare with hiking shoes, walking sticks if you use them, sun protection, hat, water bottle and a light snack. Leading this hike is Cultural Ecologist Director, Joaquin Murrieta, and personnel of NPS-Saguaro East.
