River Run Network Restoration Workshop: Sabino Canyon

Tucson is a dry environment that receives about 10 inches of rainfall annually. The parking lot at Sabino Canyon catches rainwater and funnels it downhill to the southern curb. All that water moves quickly, leaving the site before much of that water has the chance to percolate into the soil. This project aims to slow down the water, spread it out into the landscape, and allow it to sink into the soils. We will be digging in the soil to clear out curb cuts, digging rainwater basins, moving and working with rock to build one-rock dams, and doing a bit of trailwork. This workshop will help the soil store water efficiently for use by native vegetation, and feeds Sabino Creek.
