Understanding and Nurturing Desert Native Bees

Understanding and Nurturing Desert Native Bees

Mar 3 2018 - 2:00pm to 3:30pm

Guest presenter, Bill McGuire, is a desert gardener and native bee enthusiast, offering this program in collaboration with Native Seeds/SEARCH in Tucson. Bill explains why every desert native bee is a wonder-woman. He hopes to empower you to create an environment that fosters successful native bee populations in gardens, orchards, and natural spaces. Learn about these vital pollinators by reviewing basic information about native bees and their contribution as pollinators, focusing on key species and their life cycles, and reviewing best plants for native bees. He will also give a demonstration on assembling a Bee House – an adorable ‘take it home’ native bee nest made from repurposed materials. Bee house ‘kits’ will be available for sale, along with a small packet of wildflowers included, so you can make your very own bee house to support these powerful pollinators. Thanks to Friends of Oracle State Park for sponsoring this program. Please call for a reservation; free with park admission.
